Mens Free French Forces Uniform with French labeled Eisenhower style jacket and arm patch reading Rhin et Danube. Bullitt Estate. William C. Bullitt was from a prominent Philadelphia family and served as the first US ambassador to the Soviet Union, 1933 - 1936, then as US ambassador to France from 1936 - 1940. Bullitt joined the Free French Forces under General Charles de Gaulle in May 1944. Bullitt landed in southern France with Free French forces under General de Lattre de Tassigny in August 1944.
